What is Ayanamsa? Indian astrology measures planets against the fixed stars (sidereal zodiac). Ayanamsa is the gap between that and the Western (tropical) zodiac — about 24° today, growing by roughly 50″ a year. Lahiri (Chitrapaksha) is the Indian government standard; Krishnamurti (KP) is about 6′ smaller and is used in KP astrology. Choose the one your astrologer uses. Learn more
